WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Team USA snow sculpting made its yearly trip to Wausau’s Woodson Art Museum on Saturday.
This year’s theme was penguins. One of the artists told WAOW TV that he always enjoys working with the snow, even though he knows his hard work won’t make it past May.
“I do sculptures that are in bronze and that will outlast me but snow is human scale it is here and it is gone- it is more of an experience like performing art. We are here and interacting with the public,” said Mike Martino a member of the Team USA Snow Sculptures.
Art enthusiasts can take in the sculpture outside the museum for as long as it will last.
The team, which has done snow sculptures all across the USA including for the Nagano, Japan Winter Games in 1998, has been making Wausau part of their yearly tour for three decades now.
The sculpture went up just as the museum’s latest “Birds in Art” exhibit was being retired.
