MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Badger men’s hockey team skated to a 5-5 draw with Notre Dame.
The Badger men trailed 1-0 early before Ty Pelton-Byce closed out the first period with a power play goal to send the teams to the first intermission deadlocked at 1. Cole Caufield and Roman Ahcan each found the back of the net in the second, and Wisconsin led 3-1 after two.
Both teams would then combine for six goals in the final 20 minutes including two tallies from Linus Weissbach and Pelton-Byce to help the Badgers keep pace. Pelton-Byce’s goal came with less than 30 seconds remaining to force an overtime period.
Neither team struck in the extra frame. Notre Dame then claimed an extra point in the standings by winning the shootout 1-0.
With Friday’s win and Saturday’s draw, Wisconsin claims 3 of 4 possible points in the Big Ten standings to maintain their post in second place behind Minnesota. Notre Dame and Michigan are tied for 3rd.
