PLOVER, WI (WSAU) — Another record year of development is in the books in the Village of Plover despite last year’s global pandemic and other factors that drove the price of building materials up.
Village Administrator Dan Mahoney said they turned in over $35 million in new construction last year, and there wasn’t one single sector or project that drive the number.
The Village saw two multi-story apartment complexes completed last year including one at Village Park and another on Pleasent Drive in addition to over 40 new single-family homes.
As far as commercial Mahoney says for the first time in recent memory there was very little manufacturing development, but retail and office were strong. “There was a lot of mixture,” he says.
That’s expected to continue into 2021, especially with the redevelopment of the former Shopko building. Mahoney says developers have put together a mini-mall concept that includes an open atrium and multiple storefronts that will be anchored by a new facility for O’so Brewing Company.
“You’ll be able to sit at a bar area and have an O’so brew or you’ll be able to sit upstairs and overlook the production portion of the facility. It’s a neat, cool vibe from that standpoint,” he said.
Other businesses that have committed to occupying the building, which will be known as Artists and Fare, are an Anytime Fitness gym and hair salon.
“Mission Coffeehouse has announced that they will be building a facility within that development. Mike Mackay, who owns Mikey’s Restaurant across the street, will be building a new restaurant which will be a little bit later to come. There’s a lot of tenant space that’s already been leased,” he added.
Negotiations are underway with a handful of other businesses to occupy the remaining storefronts. Mahoney says announcements about those will be forthcoming.
The Shopko space in Plover has sat vacant since the Ashwaubanon-based retailer shuttered all of its stores. At one point the property was up for auction, but no bids were received.
Mahoney adds that O’so’s space will also include a brewer’s shop that will allow home-brewers to purchase supplies and ingredients for their own concoctions.
