WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) –There are now conflicting reports about who shot and killed Christian Schauer in December of 2020.
WAOW-TV is reporting 20-year-old Audrey Benson of Marshfield was arrested in connection to the homicide and initially told police she had only seen Schauer the day before his death. But at Benson’s initial appearance on Wednesday, Marathon County District Attorney Theresa Wetzsteon said Benson claims she saw Jared Carl pull the trigger. “She said that she needed to go to the bathroom so she left the vehicle. When she left the vehicle she heard what she said sounded like BB gunshots,”.
With the conflicting reports on who allegedly pulled the trigger, Wetzsteon says investigators need more time before they file charges again Benson. Benson is being held on a $500,000 bond and will return to court on March 8th along with Jared and Shawn Carl.
Jared and his father Shawn were both arrested in connection to the homicide in mid-February. Shawn was initially accused of shooting and killing Schauer with Jared accused of possession of stolen property as Schauer’s car was found on the property where he lives.
