WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wausau middle and high school students will return to in-person learning four days per week beginning Monday.
Students will be required to wear face coverings correctly and at all times, and classrooms will observe social distancing when possible.
Students will no longer report to in-person class on an A-B schedule. All junior and senior high students will spend Monday through Thursday in-person, with Friday reserved for remote learning.
The district has been preparing for the move by hiring contact tracers for schools using CARES funding.
Any student that wanted to continue remote learning had until Friday, February 26th to notify the school of their choice.
The motion passed the board on a 5-4 vote on February 8th after weeks of dialog. The move comes the same day that the state’s Department of Health Services will add teachers to the current group of people eligible for the COVID-19 vaccines, and right as Johnson and Johnson is expected to start shipping its single-dose vaccine shot to healthcare providers.
District leaders have previously indicated that they are working with local healthcare providers to set up vaccine clinics for employees. That will be dependent on vaccine supply supply.
As of mid-February, no employees had been vaccinated unless they were in groups that are currently eligible such as those 65 and older.
