GLENDALE, AZ (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers used the long ball to knock off the Chicago White Sox 7-2 in a 6 inning spring training opener on Sunday.
The Brewers struck in the first inning. After a lead off walk to Avisail Garcia and a single by Omar Narvaez, Keston Hiura hit a home run for an early 3-0 lead.
Garcia, Tyrone Taylor and Dylan Cozens also went deep in the game for Milwaukee.
The young Brewer pitchers threw up some zeros as well. After starter Eric Lauer gave up two runs in the first inning, Chicago didn’t score again. Justin Topa, Angel Perdomo, Miguel Sanchez, Ethan Small and Aaron Ashby all pitched scoreless innings allowing just two hits.
The Brewers take on the Arizona Diamondbacks today.
The Brewers also announced that pitching prospect Dylan File underwent surgery on February 4th for a stress fracture in his pitching elbow. He will be out 3-4 months.
