MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The man accused of killing Marshfield native Brittany Zimmermann in her Madison apartment while she was studying at the University of Wisconsin will have his trial delayed for a competency examination.
David Kahl’s legal team says the 54-year-old had a medical episode which they say raises questions about his ability to be a part of his defense team.
Zimmermann, who was 21 at the time of her death, was studying microbiology at UW. She was stabbed several times in her apartment in April of 2008.
Court records show a preliminary hearing in the case will be held on March 25th. Kahl remains in prison for unrelated OWI charges.
Attorneys for Kahl did not disclose details of the medical episode in question.
