WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Three people charged in the death of 20-year-old Christian Schauer were back in Marathon County court Monday, where one was formally charged as the killer
Jared Carl, 20, is now charged as the killer along with counts of possession of THC and obstructing an officer in connection with the late-December killing of Schauer
Carl’s father, 50-year-old Shawn Carl, was previously charged as the killer. Though testimony from a third suspect, Audrey Benson, came forward with new information.
Jared Carl had said his father was the one who killed Schauer, while Benson said the younger Carl did it.
Because of the different stories, the state had asked for more time to gather evidence and discovery in the case.
Shawn Carl is now charged with falsifying information and obstructing an officer.
All three are being held in the Marathon County Jail on high cash bonds and will return to Marathon County court on March 17th
