STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Clerks across the state are preparing to navigate yet another election during an ongoing pandemic, and that includes Stevens Point where city officials re-installed two ballot drop boxes for residents to use ahead of the spring election.
The boxes are located near City Hall and the Dreyfus University Center on the campus of UWSP. Any Stevens Point residents who choose to cast an absentee ballot for the election can drop off their completed ballot at either location, regardless if they are a student or not.
The drop boxes are secured and will be emptied daily until 4 PM on April 5th, the day before the Spring Election.
Those who have completed their ballots by April 6th, which is election day, can drop them off at the polling place by 8 PM for them to be counted.
Some clerks in Wisconsin have pulled off as many as five elections in the last year including last year’s municipal primary and election (which also included the Presidental Primary), the 7th Congressional District special election, and the August Primary ahead of the November general election.
Many municipalities utilized ballot drop boxes for the November election due to the large number of voters who chose to participate via absentee ballot due to the pandemic, and as questions about the reliability of mail service for election-related materials were raised.
