WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WDLB) — Wood County Sheriff Shawn Becker has announced the discovery of human remains in the Town of Rock near Patton Drive and Fairhaven Avenue.
According to a news release the discovery was made as part of a two-day investigation involving the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, the Marshfield Police Department, and the Wisconsin Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation.
Becker says the remains have not been identified but did say the investigation has to do with the Zach Vasa missing person case. He tells WDLB Radio, “We’re waiting to positively identify them. So I couldn’t say if it is or isn’t Zachary Vasa right now. This is still an ongoing investigation so there’s still going to be follow up that Marshfield PD and the Sheriff’s Department will be doing,”.
No further information has been announced at this time. The public is being asked to avoid the area near Patton Drive and Fairhaven Avenue while the investigation remains active.
Vasa went missing last summer.
