MERRILL, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Health officials in Lincoln County say a batch of 100 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine spoiled last week.
According to WAOW TV the vaccines were not prepared properly, therefore they were unable to use them.
No further specifics were given.
“We know how important each vaccine is to our community. It is just as important to our staff,” stated Shelley Hersil, Health Officer for Lincoln County. “Our staff is heartbroken over this error. We have worked very hard to not have any vaccine wasted and will continue to do so. We have taken steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
The incident has been reported to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

Wisconsin has been one of the top states when it comes to not letting the vaccine, some of which must be kept at extremely cold temperatures, go to waste. Last week health officials reported less than 0.2% of the doses the state has received were spoiled.
