RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WXPR) — The Rhinelander-Oneida County Airport has added a three-month, seasonal route to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport through United’s SkyWest regional carrier.
Bookings to Chicago are expected to begin by early next week with the route officially starting July 1st and running through September.
The news comes after what was a down year for travel nationally. However, Rhinelander-Oneida County Airport director Matthew Leitner says his facility was able to buck that trend.
“Comparable airports our size often have very limited flights and maybe a smaller carrier that isn’t affiliated with a major airline,” he told WXPR Radio in Rhinelander. “So to have United and Delta with all-jet service is huge.”
In addition to the added route to the Windy City, Delta has upped its service to the Twin Cities International Airport and has been running larger jets to increase capacity.
It’s been nearly 20 years since Rhinelander had service to Chicago.
