MILWAUKEE, WI (MetroSource-WSAU) –It’s time to play ball in Major League Baseball. It’s Opening Day across the league with all 30 clubs on the diamond.
The action starts in the Bronx with the Yankees hosting the Blue Jays, followed minutes later by the Indians and Tigers in Detroit. The defending champion Dodgers open against the Rockies in Colorado. The final game of the night features the Giants and Mariners in Seattle.
The Milwaukee Brewers will host the Twins in interleague play at American Family Field. Brandon Woodruff faces Kenta Maeda. You can hear the game on WSAU…pre game show at 12:35.
The Brewers welcome a number of new players to the roster including River Falls native and UWSP grad JP Feyereisen. He earned a spot in the bullpen with a sparkling spring giving up just one run.
Baseball returns to a full 162-game schedule after playing a reduced 60-game slate during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. Teams will carry 26 players on the roster to help reduce fatigue. The Washington nationals are the first team to run into Covid problems. They had a player test postive and four others also get quarantined as they prepare to face the New York Mets today.
The National League also reverts back to pitchers batting. A limited number of fans will be allowed in ballparks across the country, varying by individual market. The All-Star Game is scheduled for July 13th in Atlanta.
