WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — An area art teacher is charged with sexual misconduct involving a student.
WAOW TV is reporting that Christy Mathis, a teacher in the Mosinee School District, could be facing charges of sexual assault of a student by school staff. That’s according to the Wausau Police Department’s public information portal.
A statement from Mosinee PD says Mathis is being investigated for having “inappropriate contact with a female student.” Further details have not been released. She was taken into custody on Monday and appeared in Marathon County Circut Court Tuesday afternoon.
At her initial appearance, a judge set Mathis’s signature bond at $10,000 with $5,000 to be paid in cash. The judge also found probable cause to move forward with the case. Mathis is expected to be back in court on April 23 at 2 p.m.
The Mosinee Board of Education met in closed session yesterday to discuss an unannounced personnel matter.
