WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A Nekoosa man will spend life behind bars after being found guilty of killing his girlfriend’s adult daughter.
Paul Carter, 45, was sentenced to life in prison in Wood County Circut Court on Tuesday morning. Carter was found guilty of a charge of 1st-degree intentional homicide. Carter must also attend counseling sessions and have no contact with the family or residences. The charge stems from the January 17th death of Samantha Roberts, his girlfriend’s adult daughter with cerebral palsy and who was described as non-verbal.
Roberts was found unresponsive on January 17th and later was pronounced dead at the scene. Autopsy results showed the injuries Samantha suffered would have caused her death in a matter of minutes, not several hours.
Carter is also facing a charge of battery for kicking a fellow inmate in the head at the Wood County Jail after an argument over a TV remote. A jury trial for the battery charge has been scheduled for June 11th.
