WESTON, WI (WSAU) — A new municipal facility has moved one step closer to fruition.
Thursday evening the Village of Weston’s Building Committee heard from Jon Wallenkamp of Kueny Architects regarding the bids received for the new Municipal Facility project. The lowest bid received came from the Neenah based construction firm Miron Construction.
At the meeting Thursday evening the Committee went over the scope of the project included the different alternates posed for the building plan to recommend a full package to the Board of Trustees. Wallenkamp went over two different recommendation packages with the Committee.
The main difference between the two recommendations was the size of the building. The first recommendation was for a smaller base building with 20 less feet of office space while the second recommendation included a larger base building.
In introducing the two recommendations, Wallenkamp said the architectural firm would recommend the second. “Our recommendation is if the bottom line is the Village wants to be the bottom dollar, it’s one.
“But we truly feel that this building at that dollar value, the recommendation is number two because you’ll never build it for that again. This building is not a 20 year building. This building is to take the Village 50 years plus,”.
Wallenkamp then went over the different alternate options for the buildings which ranged from items like different HVAC systems, a salt and brine structure, vehicle and column lifts, an auto wash bay and more. Both of the building package recommendations included an HVAC alternate, a repair bay crane, a vehicle lift, and a mobile column lift.
The Committee preferred the second recommended building package with the larger base building. The Committee also asked that the larger building be outfitted with a VRF HVAC system after several minutes of discussion on the two proposed HVAC systems.
The final cost for the recommended building package at this time is $14,372,787. The recommendation passed the Building Committee unanimously. It will now move onto the full Village Board of Trustees for their approval at their next meeting on April 19th.
