MONICO, WI (WSAU) — A 36-year-old Webster man was arrested in Oneida County on Saturday on suspicion of his first OWI with four children under the age of 16 in the vehicle.
Late Sunday afternoon officers observed a GMC pickup pulling a camper that was driving erratically on Highway 45 near the County Road C intersection. While interacting with the driver, officers noticed signs of impairment and possible drug activity.
The driver, identified as Leon Hutton, then failed a field sobriety test. Officers then found marijuana and other drug paraphernalia in the vehicle as well.
While a first-offense OWI alone does not come with any possible prison or jail time, the punishment for having children in the vehicle does include five days to six months of jail time. Additional fines and license revocation or ignition interlock device time may also be given.
It’s unclear if the children were related to Hutton.
