STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The UWSP baseball team swept a five game series with Finlandia at Zimmerman Field over the weekend.
After taking two games on Friday, the Pointers took a DH on Saturday, 7-6 & 13-7, and then won a single game Sunday 16-0.
On Saturday Brendan Canterbury hit two home runs and collected five hits on the day. Aaron Simmons extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a four hit day. Tommy Duddleston, Bradley Comer ande Payton Nelson had three hits.
JD Schultz went 5 1/3 inning sin Game 1 with eight strikeouts. Nick Paulsen picked up the win in relief. Caleb Krommenakker pitched 4 2/3 to win Game 2.
On Sunday Lucas Luedtke homered in an eight run first inning as the Pointers rolled. Luedtke had two homers in the game and 4-4 with six RBIs. Aaron Simmons extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Jacob Menholtz pitched 5 innings with six strikeouts and only one hit for the win. Wausau EAst grad Jacob Thome made his Pointer debut with one perfect relief inning.
The Pointers, now 12-3, will host UW-La Crosse for a DH on Wednesday.
The UWSP softball team split a DH at Platteville on Sunday winning the first game 2-1 and dropping the nightcap 5-3.
Rachael Wakefield had four hits, two runs and an RBI on the day. Maddie Candre had a five hit day. Makenna Tkach picked up the win with 6 2/3 innings.
The Pointers, now 14-7, will travel to Oshkosh for a DH on Wednesday..
