CHICAGO, IL (WSAU) — The Brewers’ offense came alive in the 9th inning in a big way on Sunday to help the Crew secure a 6-0 win and take the series over the Cubs.
Milwaukee opened the scoring with an RBI walk to Travis Shaw in the first giving them a 1-0 lead that would hold up through the 8th.
The Brewers went into the 9th looking for some insurance runs and the offense didn’t disappoint. Luis Uras and Kolten Wong started the scoring with back-to-back RBI hits to build the lead up to 3-0. Tyrone Taylor and Travis Shaw would then get on base by a walk and hit by pitch, respectively to add two more runs.
Wong finished the game 2-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. Omar Narvaez added two hits and two walks in 3 at-bats.
In what is a box score oddity Shaw would finish the game with a hit and two RBI but the latter didn’t come as a result of the former.
Brandon Woodruff tossed six innings giving up just two hits and no runs to earn the win. J.P. Feyereisen earned a hold by pitching the 7th, allowing one hit and striking out two. The 8th was handled by Devin Williams. Eric Yardley finished things off in the 9th with a save out of the question.
Milwaukee now sits at 13-8 on the season, alone in first place in the NL Central. They also closed out a six-game road trip with Sunday’s game with a record of 5-1.
The Miami Marlins will come calling to American Family Field on Monday. Pregame coverage begins at 6:05 on WSAU.
