WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Court records have identified the suspect tied with Sunday’s police incident in Rothschild that ended with a totaled patrol car and damage to private property.
Jonathon Bishop is behind bars on a $25,000 cash bond and facing multiple felony charges including possession of meth, escaping criminal arrest, fleeing an officer, and three counts of taking and driving a vehicle without the consent of the owner. All of those charges also carry repeater modifiers.
According to the Village Police Department, a resident reported someone rummaging through a vehicle. When police arrived, they found the vehicle was empty but did notice a nearby garage door was open.
Officers made contact with the occupants of that house and escorted them out. They managed to find the suspect hiding in a bathroom, and arrested him. As they were processing the scene, officers say Bishop was able to maneuver his way from the backseat of a squad car to the driver’s seat and took off.
The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department was called in to help chase down the vehicle, but they lost the trail. The squad car was later found in a backyard on Southridge Drive.
Bishop was later found in an attic on nearby Louis Drive.
The case will come back before Judge Gregory Huber on Friday for a review hearing. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 5th.
Should Bishop be released conditions of his bond include no contact with two victims, identified only by their initials.
