PHILADELPHIA, PA (WSAU) — The man who drafted Aaron Rodgers sixteen years ago says the QB has every right to be unhappy in his current situation with the Packers, but he doesn’t think #12 will be traded.
Andrew Brandt released a short video statement on Twitter as word was spreading that the long-time signal-caller does not want to play for Green Bay next season.

“On Brett Farve’s side we were hearing every week ‘Andrew, do you know what it’s like to come in every day and sit with your replacement, that’s no fun,'” Brandt reminisced. “And then on Aaron’s side [we were hearing] ‘is he ever going to play? I mean Brett’s never going to retire. Is he ever going to play?'”
Brandt added that the relationship between Rodgers and Brett Favre, who didn’t retire from football permanently until 2010, was not always good.
“There was some frost between the two of them for a while. But we tried to manage it as best you can, you have to be professional.”
Brandt adds that he does think the team has mishandled Rodgers by not showing the level of “compassion and care” that they should towards the star QB. “That’s what you do in this game, you cater to your superstars that drive the product.”
Word of Rodger’s feelings broke just hours before the start of the 2021 NFL Draft, and hours after it was reported that the Packers had received calls from multiple teams who had an interest in trading for the reigning NFL MVP.
Brandt said from his position he doesn’t see Rodgers being traded this weekend during the draft, and despite his current wishes he also doesn’t see him being traded before the 2022 league year.
Brandt currently hosts a sports business podcast and is a frequent contributor to national sports talk shows. He also serves as the Director of the Moorad Center for Sports Law at Villanova University.
