WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Multiple fire departments were called to a fire along Highway 29 near the 72nd Avenue exit in Wausau Saturday night.
WAOW TV reports that as many as eight departments and the Wisconsin DNR were called to the scene as of Saturday evening.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. DOT officials closed down a portion of Highway 29 on Saturday as a precaution.
DNR officials had been warning all weekend of dry conditions and a red flag warning had been issued on Saturday for dangerous fire conditions. DOT message boards across the state also warned about dangerous fire conditions on Friday and Saturday.
