RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU) — An Oneida County judge has ordered the last felony count against former Rhinelander City Administrator Daniel Guild be dismissed with prejudice.
Guild was in court on Thursday where Judge Kevin Klein ordered one count of misconduct in office for failure to perform a known duty to be dropped, clearing Guild’s record from the allegations of record tampering that led to his removal from the position.
Two previous counts of tampering with public records were dismissed in December 2020. Tuesday’s action was the result of Guild not accumulating any felony charges over a certain time frame.

Guild had been accused of tampering with the file of a former City of Rhinelander employee and altering emails that were part of public record. The incident led to a raid at city hall, which was followed by Guild being placed on leave. He was later terminated by the city.
Guild, the former Village of Weston Administrator, has not since returned to public life. His tenure in Weston also ended in contentious fashion after Village leaders voted to give him a 30 working-day suspension in the Summer of 2018 for reasons that were never made clear. That suspension was later voided as part of an agreement that saw Guild resign two months later. He was hired in Rhinelander a short time after that.
Former Wisconsin Rapids Mayor Zach Vruwink has since taken over as City Administrator in Rhinelander.
