MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU-WRN) — Former Green Bay Packers Fullback John Kuhn says believe it or not he does see a path towards peace between QB Aaron Rodgers and management as reports about unrest between the two continue to swirl.
“I still believe there is an opportunity for a resolution here,” Kuhn told The Zach Gelb Show on CBS Sports Radio last week. “But, it’s going to take two men that are dug in right now to meet in the middle somewhere they are both happy.”
Kuhn, who played with the team from 2007-2015, does acknowledge that the Packers are in a tight spot having Jordan Love on a rookie deal. Per the league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, those contracts run for four years and do include a fifth-year option that can be picked up by the team. “If I use the football business acumen and see the tough spot the Packers are in right now, that’s what makes me pull back a little bit. I still think it’s somewhere around 70-75% that Aaron Rodgers is the starting QB for the Packers this year.
“I believe he thinks that right now is his best chance at the age of 37 to ensure that his career in Green Bay does get to 40,” he added.
It should be noted that Rodgers himself has released no formal statements on the situation. Team Management has reaffirmed its commitment to the QB on several occasions.
Many insiders have pointed to June 1st as a date that could bring some resolution to the situation. Trading Rodgers before then would result in over $38 million in dead cap money for the team for 2021- meaning that money can’t be spent on other players currently on the roster. Trading him in early June decreases that number to under $20 million.
