WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The demolition process for a downtown Wausau building begins on Monday.
Wausau Opportunity Zone Inc. (WOZ) the owners of the Wausau Center Mall have announced that demolition on the property will begin Monday, May 17th. That’s according to a new community communication campaign launched by the group and public relations and marketing firm AMPERAGE Marketing & Fundraising called Get Downtown, It’s Refreshing!
The communication campaign will keep residents and businesses alike update on the changes coming to Downtown Wausau. The updates will consist of a website and other digital-based updates. The first update was released on Friday afternoon saying construction fencing will go up around the Wausau Center Mall on Monday.
The first area to be demolished will be the old Sears building, near Washington Street and 5th Street. Demolition then will move west throughout the summer, toward the old JC Penney building. Parts of Washington Street will be temporarily closed throughout the demolition as crews bring in equipment and materials. Most of that work will take place during the evening, from 7:30 p.m. to midnight.
HOM Furniture and two parking ramps will remain open throughout the entire project..
