WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — Community festivals and events are slowly returning to Central Wisconsin, including Wisconsin Rapids’ famous Cranberry Blossom Festival which is set for June 17th-20th.
Mayor Shane Blaser says they haven’t put the final touches on the itinerary for the weekend just yet but plan to do so within the next few weeks.
“[We’re] in the planning stages now to have the normal events,” said Blaser. “Hopefully the parade, and all of those events that they have during that time of the year. We’re looking forward to seeing that get going again this year.”
It’s also unknown if there will be any health and safety protocols in place. Blaser says he doesn’t expect many since many of the events around the festival are held outdoors which helps keep the spread of viruses down.
“Hopefully it’s full steam ahead,” he added.
Last year’s event was one of many that were called off due to the pandemic. Others included Stevens Point’s Riverfront Rendezvous and many of the events in Wausau such as chalkfest, balloon and rib fest, and the Big Bull Falls Blues Bash. Many of those are back on for this summer.
In addition to Cranberry Blossom Festival, the city is planning to bring back its 4th of July fireworks show and other events for the holiday. Those were also canceled in 2020 during the height of the pandemic.
