WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) –Roc’s Place in Wausau is now in danger of losing its Class B Liquor license following a hearing of the city’s Public Health and Safety Committee on Monday.
A hearing regarding Roc’s Place Class B Beer & Liquor License was held on Monday evening after a formal complaint was filed by Wausau Police Patrol Captain Todd Baeten. In his complaint, Baeten recommended that the bar’s liquor license be revoked.
The hearing was held in the style of a trial with representatives from both sides provided the opportunity to make opening statements and question witnesses. As part of her opening statement, Assistant City Attorney Tara Alfonso outlined two specific accusations against the establishment including the accumulation of demerit points and a “riotous” atmosphere.
Representatives from Roc’s countered by saying owner Timothy Nawrocki has expressed an interest in working with police including Chief Ben Bliven to improve conditions. That includes requesting more officer walk-throughs and the installation of additional security cameras.
Witnesses and cross-examination on the complaint lasted 5 and a half hours and included a handful of other witnesses including a Wausau patrol officer and Roc’s Place owner Timothy Nawrocki. Body camera footage from officers and surveillance footage from Roc’s Place was also shown.
Following the witness testimony, the Public Health and Safety Committee went into closed session to determine the Complaint. After 45 minutes in closed session Committee Chair, Lisa Rasmussen delivered the Committee’s recommendation.
“We find by the greater weight of credible evidence that the licensee has violated Chapter 125 of the Wisconsin Statutes as adopted by Wausau Municipal Code Section 5.64.010. And Wisconsin Statute Chapter 125.12(2)ag(1) and Chapter 125.12(2)ag(2) as adopted by the Wausau Municipal Code Section 5.64.010 in that the licensee keeps or maintains a disorderly, riotous, indecent, or improper house.
The Public Health and Safety Committee hereby recommends
to the City Council that the Class B Beer & Liquor License be revoked pursuant to Wisconsin Statute Chapter 125.12(2)ag(2)”.
The decision to revoke Roc’s Place beer and liquor license does require approval from the full city council. Their next meeting is set for next Tuesday, May 24th.
