WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A street closure in Wausau that was originally scheduled to last multiple days has been reduced to one evening.
According to Wausau Public Works and Utilities Director Eric Lindman the closure on Washington Street will now take place on only Tuesday evening. The closure was originally scheduled to last until Thursday evening.
The new closure on Tuesday night will last from 7:30 p.m. to midnight on Washington Street between 1st and 5th Street. All utility work on the street will be conducted within that time frame.

Drivers going through downtown Wausau will want to make note of street closures along portions of Washington Street over the next three days.
On Tuesday the closure will impact a three-block stretch from 3rd to 5th. First Street to 3rd Street will be closed off on Wednesday and again on Thursday.
The closures will run from 7:30 PM to midnight each night. They are required to allow for utility disconnections from the former Wausau Center Mall building.
While most of the work in demolishing the property will not impact everyday traffic around the area, there will be some periodic lane or road closures.

Officials with Wausau Opportunity Zone, the group handling the renovation of the property, have set up a website along with other public information campaigns to make everyone aware of when those disruptions will occur. You can find more on that by clicking here.
