WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Merrill man is facing sexual assault charges for allegedly having sexual contact with a patient.
Joseph Damico, 21, was in Marathon County Circut Court Thursday afternoon for an initial appearance. Damico is facing charges of 2nd-degree sexual assault of a mentally ill victim and 2nd-degree sexual assault of a treatment facility resident.
According to a police report, Damico was approached by a resident of the group home where he worked, who pantsed Damico and another employee before returning to their room. Damico told the other employee he would take care of the resident. When the other worker walked by the resident’s bedroom they heard an audible “sucking” sound. When the employee opened the door, they found Damico sexually assaulting the resident.
If convicted on the two charges, Damico is facing up to 40 years in prison. He will return to court on June 17th for a preliminary hearing.
