WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Officers from the Wisconsin State Patrol Wausau post arrested a 24-year-old Stevens Point man on suspicion of driving while high on Interstate 39 in Wautoma County on Sunday.
The stop began when officers observed Kenneth L Wright failing to move over for an emergency vehicle. While interacting with Wright, officers noticed the odor of marijuana and signs of impairment.
He then failed a field sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of his first OWI with a child in the vehicle under the age of 16 along with possession of THC.
A first-offense OWI with a child in the vehicle is treated as a criminal offense and can come with added penalties such as jail time and longer license revocation. Fines are also higher.
As with all accusations, Wright is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
