MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — It took an extra-inning but the Brewers were able to get back to being a .500 team on Thursday afternoon.
Shortstop Willy Adames had his first big game for the Crew on Thursday afternoon to help lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a win over the San Diego Padres. The Brewers took a 6-5 win in the bottom of the 10th at American Family Field to end the series against the NL West-leading Padres.
Adames had a 4 hit game in 5 at-bats on Thursday afternoon with a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 7th inning to give the Crew their second lead of the game. Right fielder Avisail Garcia was the other Brewer with a multi-hit game with 2 hits in four at-bats. Also collecting hits for Milwaukee were left fielder Jackie Bradley Jr., shortstop Daniel Robertson, and second baseman Kolton Wong.
At the mound, starter Adrien Houser dealt for 5 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 4. Grabbing the win for the Crew was closer Brent Suter who allowed just one walk on eight pitches to end the inning. Also in at relief during the game was Trevor Richards (2.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 SO), Devin Williams (1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R), and Josh Hader (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 SO).
The first three innings of the game went quickly as aside from the bottom of the 1st, starting pitchers Houser and Ryan Weathers threw three up three down innings. Two batters were left on base in the bottom of the 1st for the Brewers after a double from Adames and a walk for Manny Pina. The bats got going for the Crew in the bottom of the 5th as hits from Robertson, Adames, and Garcia brought in two runs.
The Padres were able to answer right back in the top of the 6th, taking a 3-2 lead over the Brewers from a 2-run Eric Hosmer home run. The first run for the Padres came in off a Fernando Tatis Jr. RBI to left field, letting Tommy Pham head to home plate.
Milwaukee was able to get the lead for the second time in regular frames in the bottom of the 7th. With two runners on base, Adames hit a home run on a fly ball to left-center field to bring in Kolton Wong and Christian Yelich for a 5-3 lead. The Padres were able to tie the game up in the top of the 8th when an RBI double from Manny Machado brought in Tatis Jr. who had hit an RBI earlier to score Jurickson Profar.
The Brewers would be able to get the win with a walk-off single to right field from Jackie Bradly Jr. in the bottom of the 10th. The RBI single let Omar Narvaez score the winning run, bringing the series to a 2-2 split.
Milwaukee is now back at .500 on the season with 25-25. They are 2.5 games behind the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs. The Crew will be back in action on Friday afternoon in Washington D.C. against the Nationals. Pregame begins at 5:35 p.m. on WSAU with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m.
