WASHINGTON, DC (WSAU) — After avoiding a series loss against the Padres last week the Milwaukee Brewers bounced back to sweep a three-game set from the Washington Nationals this weekend.
Avisail Garcia belted a two-run home run in the first inning and Omar Narvaez added a solo blast in the 9th for insurance as Milwaukee scored a 3-0 win on Sunday.
The two homers were two of just four hits for Milwaukee on the day. Kolten Wong and Willy Adames each added singles in the win.
Brandon Woodruff gave the bullpen the day off by turning in seven innings and allowing just two hits. Brad Boxberger walked one batter in the 8th but managed to keep the inning clean otherwise to earn a hold. Josh Hader struck out one to earn the save.
With the seven-inning shutout, Woodruff has now delivered 10 consecutive quality starts (minimum six innings pitched while allowing three or fewer runs). His ERA currently sits at 1.41, which is the second-lowest in franchise history after ten starts. Cal Eldred turned in a 1.26 ERA after ten starts in 1992.
The Brewers return home on Monday for a Memorial Day matinee against Detroit. Pregame coverage on WSAU begins at 12:35.
