WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A new memorial up to honor a dog that touched the lives of many with her story in Marathon County.
A new memorial is up at the Marathon County Humane Society to honor Tux, a missing dog who passed away before being found. Tux went missing in the Kronenwetter area after her spay surgery in mid-March, and was found in late April after being hit by a car on Highway 29.
Many members of the community worked to try and find Tux, which led the Humane Society to build a memorial in her honor Executive Director Lisa Lietermann tells WAOW-TV. “How many people were interested in her story and were just so hopeful for her return, that we needed to do something for her.
“I mean obviously, this isn’t something that happens often. Or not anything that we want to ever happen at all. But we all went through a lot and you know Tux went through a lot so we wanted to kind of embody the journey she had while she was with us,”.
The memorial sits outside the Humane Society building on Packer Drive. The memorial has a place for pet owners to hang the tags of their lost pets to honor their memory. An additional plaque will be added to the memorial that describes what kind of dog Tux was.
