TOWN OF HAMMEL, WI (WSAU) — One person is dead after an early morning accident in Taylor County.
According to Taylor County Sheriff Larry Woebbeking, the Department received a 911 call around noon on Tuesday, June 22nd of a motorcycle accident with an unresponsive male lying in a ditch. The body was located a quarter-mile south of State Highway 64 on County Road E in the Town of Hammel.
When emergency services arrived on the scene it was determined the motorcyclist was deceased. He has since been identified as 49-year-old Brian Rygiel of Chippewa Falls.
A preliminary investigation of the crash has determined that it occurred shortly after 3 a.m. on Tuesday. Rygiel was riding southbound on County Road E when he failed to negotiate a curve. He then drove into the ditch and struck a tree.
Rygiel was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Alcohol is also believed to be a contributing factor. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
