STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — One man was arrested Tuesday morning following a seven-mile chase through Stevens Point and Plover.
At around 8:30 officers observed a vehicle traveling 50 MPH along Division Street in Point. They attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver sped off. Officers then lost sight of the vehicle and terminated the chase.
The vehicle was then spotted sometime later, and officers again tried to initiate a stop. But, once again, the driver took off leading officers into a residential neighborhood in the Village of Plover.
The chase went through a construction zone and into backyards, damaging lawns and landscaping in the process. A PIT maneuver was attempted but failed to stop the driver.
Eventually, the vehicle parked at an apartment complex in Plover, and the driver surrendered without further incident. He was identified as 38-year-old Anthony Andrae, who was already wanted for multiple outstanding felony warrants.
Officers are now requesting charges of first-offense OWI, felony fleeing, hit-and-run, and multiple other traffic offenses are added to the docket from Tuesday’s incident.
The chase reached speeds of 80 MPH and covered 7.2 miles. Stevens Point Police officers were assisted in the incident by Plover Police and the Portage County Sheriff’s Office.
