APPLETON, WI (WSAU) — A Wisconsin Rapids man has pled not guilty in a sexual assault incident that took place in the year 2000 near the Fox River Mall in Appleton.
John Carter is charged in Outagamie County with first-degree sexual assault in the incident. According to investigators, he had a brief interaction with the victim as she was working at Younkers, including asking her when the store closed.
Later that night as she was reaching in her car to get her ice scraper, the man approached her, displayed a handgun, and told her to get into the vehicle on the passenger side. He’s then accused of driving to a nearby location where he sexually assaulted her.
He’s currently being held on a $1 million cash bond. His next court appearance is on August 18th.
Carter was charged with the crime through DNA evidence that was discovered in a separate case.
