GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Former Wausau Fire Chief Tracey Kujawa has finally collected her 2020 Career Fire Chief of the Year honor.
Current Chief Bob Barteck, who was appointed to the position three weeks ago, said the honor is something that Kujawa could have easily won every year of her career.
“Chief Kujawa is just an amazing, humble, servant leader,” he told WAOW TV. “She always puts the needs of other people around her ahead of her own needs. She’s a hard worker and amazing mentor.”
Kujawa has also been credited with leading numerous positive changes within the department, culminating in the planning, construction, and grand opening of the new Fire Station 2 near Stewart Avenue and the Highway 52 intersection.
She picked up the award after being nominated by Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg and members of the city’s Fire and Police Commission. The award was presented during a ceremony at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Kujawa officially won it in the spring of 2020, but like so many other things the ceremony was delayed as the region focused on containing the COVID-19 outbreak.
