We continue our look back at the music of 50 years ago……
In 1971 many rock & rollers were finding their quiet sides…pulling out the acoustic guitars for some introspective moments as the singer-songwriter movement intensified. One of the bands that visited the quieter side of rock & roll was Ten Years After.
Their 1971 LP, “A Space In Time” was their sixth and featured their biggest hit….
It’s driven my acoustic guitars but the electric solos from the uber-talented Alvin Lee get the song chugging near the end.
The album includes a mixture of ballads and rockers including a song that really grabs that old time rock & roll feel in “Once There Was A Time”.
Also, check out the musical passage in the tune “Baby Won’t You Let Me Rock & Roll You” that Led Zeppelin lifted for their song ‘Misty Mountain Hop” later in the year. I know, Led Zep stealing a riff? Shocking right?
I would imagine that Alvin Lee fans will dig this album and ‘I’d Love To Change The World” is an excellent record (it’s politics aside), but I think you can do better perusing elsewhere in the band’s catalog. Take a listen anyway and see what you think.
