STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Two men will be facing multiple charges after confronting bicyclists this past weekend.
According to a release from the Stevens Point Police Department charges are being recommended to the District Attorney’s Office for two men who were involved in a confrontation on Saturday, July 24th. The incident happened at 9:15 p.m. in the 1000 block of Francis St. in Stevens Point.
A 37-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were riding their bikes near Park St. and Church St. when a vehicle passed them telling them to ride their bicycles on the sidewalk. The bicyclists replied that they did not belong on the sidewalk in that area.
A few moments later in the 1000 block of Francis St. near Water St., the same vehicle approached the bicyclists and two men got out of the car. The men had a confrontation with the bicyclists where they took the bicyclist’s phones, keys, and ID. The bicyclists were able to take a description of the men’s vehicle and their license plate number during the exchange.
The two suspects in the confrontation have been identified as 32-year-old Andrew Zarda and 23-year-old Dalton Vribes. Charges being requested to the DA’s Office include disorderly conduct, theft, criminal damage to property, and obstructing a police officer.
The release goes on to say the Police Department is aware of a video taken of the incident that was shared on social media. The department reminds the community that anyone with video to help assist in the investigation is asked to contact the Stevens Point Police Department.
