COBB COUNTY, GA (WSAU) — Willy Adames homered and Josh Hader nailed down his 22nd save of the season to help the Milwaukee Brewers to a 2-1 win over Atlanta on Sunday.
Adames went deep on the 6th pitch of the game off Brave’s starter Charlie Morton to give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead. Jackie Bradley Jr would tack on the game-winning run in the 5th when he grounded out to second base, bringing around Lorenzo Cain.
Milwaukee mustered just three hits in the game including Adames’ homer. Cain and Luis Urias also recorded base hits.
The Braves were just 1-9 with runners in scoring position in the game and left eight runners on base in the game. Austin Riley led the team with two hits.
Brett Anderson tossed 5.2 innings to earn the win. He allowed one earned run and scattered three hits in the game. John Curtiss finished off the 6th before Milwaukee turned to Brad Boxberger and Devin Williams who bridged the 7th and 8th to bring on Hader.
The All-Star closer needed just ten pitches to finish off the game.
The win moves Milwaukee to 63-43, seven games above Cincinnati for first place in the NL Central. They’ll begin a three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates Monday evening at American Family Field. The week concludes with a potential Postseason preview as the San Francisco Giants come to town for three starting Friday.
