RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WXPR) – Nicolet College held a Presidential Investiture Ceremony to formally welcome Kate Ferrel as the next President.
Ferrel replaces retiring President Dr. Richard Nelson.
The Board of Trustees promoted her from within the college. She had been the Executive Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs.
Ryan Zietlow is the Nicolet College Board of Trustees Chair, said it was to their benefit to have someone who knows the college and the community to lead. “President Ferrel comes to us with broad experience in the technical college system with a strong knowledge on operations, personal relationships with staff, stakeholders, and the Wisconsin Technical College System, and her engagement with the Nicolet College Community. We’re eager to watch and support her leadership of Nicolet College.”
The ceremony included many tribal partners of the college. The Yellow Cloud Singers from the Forest County Potawatomi Community sang and played the drum. A Lac du Flambeau Tribal Elder gave the invocation.
President Ferrel said their presence there was important to her personally and professional. “May these songs, may these stories and the meaning that they carry provide us a place and connection to the work we all do in higher education. May they lay a foundation for meaningful collaboration and collective success across the diverse communities and partners that we serve.”
Ferrel began her duties as College President on July 1st.
