MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — Officers with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office are once again encouraging drivers to slow down on US 51.
Friday evening an Outagamie County man was stopped for doing 110 in a 65 MPH zone. A few hours later an 18-year-old woman from Waunakee was stopped for driving 99 MPH.
Later in the weekend officers stopped a pair of UTV drivers for speeding on side roads including one who was traveling 74 MPH along Tannery Road north of Tomahawk. Sometime later officers stopped another UTV in that same area for traveling 46 MPH which resulted in the driver being cited for driving a UTV while intoxicated.
Officers have been cracking down on speeders throughout the summer, citing numerous cases of drivers breaking 90-100 MPH on the roadway. Last weekend the State Patrol conducted aerial enforcement on the road in Marathon County, looking for signs of speeders from helicopters then informing their colleagues on the ground to intimate a traffic stop.
