SARATOGA, WI (WSAU) — One person is dead after a crash in Wood County Friday afternoon.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, county dispatch received a call of a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 73 near Evergreen Ave. in the Township of Saratoga. The call reported that the crash was a head-on crash between a passenger car and a semi-truck.
An initial investigation determined that the semi was traveling on STH 73 westbound while the car was traveling eastbound on the highway. The car then entered the westbound lane and collided head-on with the semi-truck. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene while the semi-driver was transported to Aspirus Riverview Hospital for minor injuries.
State Highway 73 was closed for several hours on Friday afternoon between County Highway U and State Highway 13 because of the crash. The highway reopened to drivers just after 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening. An investigation into the crash is ongoing at this time.
