MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers pulled out a 2-1 win in ten innings over the San Francisco Giants in the opener of a three game series on Friday night at American Family Field.
Rowdy Tellez provided the game winning hit in the bottom of the 10th inning driving in Avi Garcia from second base.
The other Brewer run came on a Garcia home run in the 2nd inning.
Corbin Burnes and Logan Webb were both tough on the mound. Webb retired 14 of the 15 hitters he face including the final 11 before exiting for a pinch hitter after six innings. Burnes gave up a solo homer to Brandon Belt that tied the game in the 6th before working out of a jam to end the inning. He gave up one run on four hits with 5Ks over seven innings.
Brad Boxberger , Devin Williams and Brent Suter pitched scoreless innings with Suter picking up his 11th win of the season.
The Brewers and Giants will play again tonight with the pre game show at 5:30 on WSAU.
The win came on a day when Milwaukee had two more pitchers test positive for COVID19. Both Adrian Houser and Jandel Gustave tested positive. Gustave had already been in quarantine for close contact. Houser was scheduled to start Tuesday against the Cubs and will now miss at least two starts.
