ABBOTSFORD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating a workplace accident that resulted in death at an Abbotsford business last month.
On July 28th, 28-year-old Cody Weinke of Perkinstown died during a routine tire and wheel assembly at Pomp’s Tire Service. Pomp’s General Legal Counsel TJ Trum tells WAOW-TV what happened during the incident. “When tragically that tire and wheel assembly experienced some sort of a failure. And in that failure, the assembly regrettably collided with the teammate causing him the injuries.”
According to the Colby-Abbotsford Police Department report of the incident, those at the location say the tire exploded during the tire and wheel assembly. The report also goes on to say that those at the scene were in shock of the incident.
Trum says that Pomp’s Tire Service number one concern is their employee’s safety. “This type of accident and injury is exceptionally rare. It is not something that is common.” An investigation into the incident could take up to 6 months according to OSHA. Pomps is a Wisconsin-based auto service center with locations throughout the Midwest and upper Plains.
