WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — One of two men accused of violently beating a 52-year-old man outside a Schofield tavern in late May will head to trial.
Trey Houghtaling, 34, of Merrill is facing charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety and substantial battery along with disorderly conduct for the incident in May. Houghtaling is accused of being fighting a Navy veteran with another man outside of Hoehn’s Huddle on Grand Avenue as the victim was trying to walk home. It’s unclear what may have caused the fight.

At his preliminary hearing on Monday, Houghtaling was bound over for an arraignment and trial as the court found probable cause a crime had been committed. Houghtaling then pleaded not guilty to the three charges in the case.
