WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A former teacher in the Wausau area has had her case dismissed.
Christy Mathis, 50, was facing a charge of 1st-degree child sex assault with a person under the age of 13. In March of 2021, Mathis was alleged of having inappropriate contact with a female student while she was an art teacher within the Mosinee School District.
At an oral ruling on Thursday, Marathon County Judge Michael Moran said there wasn’t sufficient evidence to determine probable cause for Mathis. The charge against Mathis has been dropped and the case has been closed without prejudice, meaning it could be tried again if further evidence is found.
Mathis was arrested in April on suspicion of the act and had been given a bond. That bond will be returned per the Clerk of Court’s office.
