MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A former D.C. Everest teacher will spend just under a decade behind bars for federal charges.
Travis Greil was sentenced to 8.5 years behind bars by U.S. District Judge William Conley after he was convicted of taking upskirting videos of female students in federal court. After his 8.5 years in prison, Greil will have three years of supervised release.
At the sentencing, numerous victims told the Court how Greil’s actions had impacted their lives, expressing feelings including anger and betrayal. Judge Conley noted the defendant used his position of trust as an educator to manipulate his bright and ambitious students and called the defendant’s conduct predatory.
Greil pled guilty to a charge of producing child pornography in May as part of a plea deal. In the plea deal, state charges against Greil were dropped in Marathon County.
An investigation into Griel’s misconduct began in February of 2020 when a student came forward saying she felt uncomfortable with him and believed Greil had filmed up her skirt while she was standing near Greil’s desk. Greil was a social studies teacher at D.C. Everest High School at the time.
