VILLAGE OF MAINE, WI (WSAU) – The state Department of Justice is investigating an officer-involved shooting in the Village of Maine. It involved a Marathon County Sheriff’s Deputy on Friday around 10:30pm.
According to a news release, the deputy spotted a car near County Highway WW that was wanted for a speeding violation in Lincoln County.
The deputy ordered two people out of the vehicle when one of the occupants fired a shot at the deputy. The deputy then returned fire and wounded the man. The other person in the vehicle, a woman, stayed in the car, but was also injured by gunfire.
Both were taken to a hospital, where they are being treated for their injuries. The deputy was not hurt.
No names are being released.
Investigators were on the scene until 2:30am Saturday.
