MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) – When classes begin in the Marshfield School District on September 1st, students and staff will be required to wear masks. The Board of Education approved the mask requirement, 7-0, during their meeting last week.
The mask rule will apply even for those who are fully vaccinated.
Superintendent Ryan Christianson said he recommended the mask requirement as a way of reducing the number of students and teachers who might have to quarantine because of close-contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19.
The Wood County Health Department recommends indoor masking in all public areas, regardless of vaccination status. That recommendation follows Centers for Disease Control guidelines which were changed earlier this month. In Wisconsin, state health and education officials have recommended the wearing of masks. There are no state mandates; decisions will be made at the local level by individual school boards. Many school districts will be starting the year with a “mask optional” policy.
